Top 10 from the Weekend: It's never as bad as it seems, it's never as good, unless it is.

It's Never As Bad:

10. Jeff Heath and the Boys:

Make no and ifs, buts about it, Dallas's secondary is kinda ass. But they're not as bad as it seems at the time. Of course Aaron Rodgers slices them up every time he plays them, but he's out of the picture this year. We've got two young stars in rookie Jourdan Lewis and sophomore Anthony Brown, along with OG Orlando Scandrick at corner. Safeties are bad, yesterday Byron Jones specifically, but just a week ago he turned in an interception for 6 and Jeff Heath did a pretty good job of closing the game out breaking on an Alex Smith late pass. Are they the Legion of Boom? Hell naw, but just like the other starters on defense, they get after you and try to make plays when they are there.
Byron Jones going for 6 against the Redskins October 29th.
9. Texas Longhorns

Every Saturday whenever the Horns are on TV I'm in awe about how good, or how bad they look. At 4-5, Texas is bad. There are no moral victories, simple wins and losses. Right now Texas is a bad football team. But it's never as bad it seems. After the Maryland debacle, Texas's defense has been good, like damn good. They blanked SJSU, take USC into overtime and hold the then number 4 team in the country under 30. They hold Iowa State (the team that beat Oklahoma) to 7, hold Oklahoma (29) and Oklahoma State (13) under 30, and most recently, held a 7-1 TCU team to 24 points. The Big 12 is known for its shootouts, just look at OU and OSU's combined 114 points, so for Texas to hold opponents under 30 like they've been, they can only go up when they get an offense to correspond.
Malik Jefferson has been bringing the hat for Texas, and is a sure lock on All-American teams.

8. Big K.R.I.T.'s second half of "4eva is a Mighty Long Time"

I pre-ordered Big K.R.I.T'S album and patiently waited on Oct. 27th to come so I could listen. Of course most of you bashed it on Facebook and called it his worst album ever. So I didn't listen right away. I let it simmer and finally clicked on at the beginning of last week, and boy was I glad I did.
K.R.I.T. is one of a kind in sound. He sounds like if DJ Screw, Chalie Boy, Andre 3000, and Kendrick Lamar were fused into one artists.
In this day of rap, artists put out loose, familiar content in mixtapes to keep their fans. They understand that there's a sound that fans look for when they see their names.  But their albums are the masterpieces they spend months on months, sometimes years making, especially for substance artists like K.R.I.T.
For instance, when Drake dropped "If You're Hearing This It's Too Late," people went bonkers for it. But his album "Views" was completely different. It took some adjusting to, but overall it's a solid piece of work. K.R.I.T.'s second half is a slower, more gospel infused sound. It's best for long drives and when you have time to focus. I know it's not like the others, but it's worth while.

7. Ezekiel Elliot

So he's that good, on the field. The dark cloud looming around his head about suspension is what makes me want to pump the breaks on him. If you think this dude's talent is going to immerse then your crazy. What's scary about Zeke is that at any moment he can be suspended and kill all of Dallas's momentum and season. This is an issue that should've been resolved by now, especially since what they suspended him for the courts dropped the case. Did he get carried away on St. Patrick's Day, yeah. But a bunch of drunk 20 somethings always do. I wish they would've slapped him on the wrist for 2 games instead of trying to send a message at the league's youngest brightest star. 6 games is ridiculous, especially since Wonderboy got caught cheating and they only hit him for four.
Dallas's season lies on the decision of courts.

6. Baker Mayfield

598 passing yards is no fluke. Mayfield right now is balling, but I'm screaming hol' up on Oklahoma's future Heisman winner. Mayfield has produced every year he's been on the field. From his true freshman days at Texas Tech, all the way up to now as a senior redshirt at Oklahoma, Mayfield has slung the ball with disrespectful intent towards defenses. Here's why I'm slowing up on Baker. He doesn't play well in big games. Oklahoma made it in the college football playoffs his sophomore redshirt year, and laid an egg against Clemson. Last year, he underwhelmed against the Cougars at the beginning of the season, and did the same thing against Ohio State. For those of you that say that's in the past he over that, I say not so fast. He was impressive against Oklahoma State this weekend, but lets see what he does against TCU. Oklahoma's offense struggled against Iowa State and Texas. If he can do a Gary Patterson defense, like he did OSU this past weekend, well I'm wrong.
598 is impressive, but if he can play big against TCU, the Heisman's his.

5. Miami

The Canes are undefeated and my brother Tommy is more excited than I've ever seen. So far all the U fans.... breathe. Deep breath. Y'all aren't that good. Miami being good again is what college football desperately needs (Texas more so, but the U needs to be good too). Mark Richt has done an exceptional job of turning the culture around, and instilling a winning attitude and mantra. The gold turnover chain is the coolest piece of jewelry I've ever seen on the sidelines. You can best believe when I'm head coaching somewhere, you'll see something similar on my sidelines. But Miami still has tons to prove in the upcoming month. The last 5 weeks of football, Miami has struggled with Florida State, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, North Carolina, before handily beating Virginia Tech. None of those teams are College Football Playoff caliber. Their biggest challenge is this Saturday against Notre Dame, the number 3 team in the nation. If they win this game they're legit. They'll have one more opportunity to prove against Clemson in the ACC Championship.
That chain is going to have to be passed around a lot if Miami is going to finish undefeated.
Unless it is that bad.

4. NY Giants

It doesn't get any worse as far as I'm concerned than the NY Giants. They've been pretty bad, and it's really a shock to everyone. As a Cowboys fan, I had NY winning the division. I thought that they're defense was the best in the division, and with the edition of Evan Engram, I thought Eli was bound to have a career year. Then reality set in. NY only plays defense against Dallas, and their offensive line is absolutely atrocious. Eli's been sacked 19 times already in 10 games. OBJ is out for the season so there will be no "reaching back like 1, 3 like 1,3." They got absolutely blasted by the LA Rams in a bad weather game which makes no sense. The Rams should be horrible in bad weather games seeing that they've been in LA for a year and in a dome in St. Louis before that. Sometimes it's not that bad, unless it is. NYG you're that bad.
As good as the Giant's defense is, for them to give up 51 points is a joke.

3. Devin Kelley

You sir, are that bad. I've never been in the military and as of now never plan to, so I don't speak on military subjects. But what happened outside of San Antonio, Texas is simply inexplicable. 26 people who wanted spiritual refilling and wanted to be around people they cared and loved about were murdered. Church, supposed to be a safe haven for people to spiritually re-up, turned into a crime scene. Another 20 people were injured. It was a sad day, and it's people like Devin Kelley who are the reasons some won't go to church, and why deacons will be strapped at the back and front doors.
Outside of the church that was shot up in Sutherland Springs, TX.

Unless it is that good.

2. Ezekiel Elliot
Every time Zeke runs the ball I'm impressed. Even his 3 yard gains look like gold, because they're are about 25 other backs in this league that can't do what he does. You can credit all of his success to Dallas's line, but they haven't been that good. Dallas runs stretches, tosses, and dives up the middle. They've been doing the same runs since DeMarco Murray had his 1400 yard year. When Dallas played the Chiefs yesterday, their defensive players point runs out. They all run to the side of a stretch, but Zeke patiently waited on them to over pursue, and cut back inside of the left tackle. Every time he's tackled he turns, spins, contorts his upper body to ensure that he's falling forward. He's the best back in the league and it ain't even close. He's 22 too. It's going to be a long career for you Cowboy Haters.

1. Keilyn Williams

I try not to talk about current high school players, mainly because they get jealous if they ever find out, but Keilyn Williams is a dog. At 5'5 130 pounds, Keilyn has turned from a key player to a focal point in what we do. His acceleration is incredible. After his second step he's at top speed and is through the line before safeties can blink. He opened the season off with a 94 yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Lufkin and has made plays since. At first sight you may think it's all finesse, but the guy is a dog. I've seen him throw linebackers off of him fighting for yardage, while also flipping forward to get as many yards as possible on the way down. He may not have D1 size, but he's a D1 talent. Will he get a shot, I don't know, but it won't be because I'm not pushing his name.
It's been awhile since someone has had the competitive spirit as this guy at Longview.
