Longview Lobos Top 10 Wide Receivers Since 2000

10. A'DARIUS CARTER

years: 2017
college: sE oklahoma

A QB Convert in mid-season, A.C. hit the ground running at wide receiver. At all of 6'3 220, Carter punished would be tacklers and had deceptive breakaway speed. As a junior he returned a pooch kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown dropping a mean stiff arm on his way to the crib. That running ability transferred to his senior season as he rushed for 12 touchdowns in 2017 out of the wildcat package. He tied the school record for rushing touchdowns in a game with 5 against Tyler Lee. When he wasn't catching the snap he was catching passes. After the 2nd game of the season Carter was moved to wide receiver and had a successful season out wide. He caught 8 touchdowns passes which ties him 7th in school history for touchdowns in a season.

9. ROGERS TAYLOR

YEARS: 2002-03
College: Kilgore

An absolute rocket at wide receiver, Taylor was a blur to opponents in the early 2000s.  A prisoner of his offense, his numbers won't jump off the screen, but his plays in big games throughout his career will. As a junior he balled against Lufkin in the 3rd round classic in Tyler. Taylor finished with 6 Career Touchdowns, numbers that would've been tripled had he played in a more modern offense.

8. DAVID ROBINSON

YEARS: 2005
College: UCA

AT 6'5 200, Robinson played exactly what you're mind probably envisions with that size. A true mismatch, Robinson could run, catch and jump, but most importantly catch the ball at the apex of his jump. He finished with over 500 yards as a senior and 5 touchdowns, on his way to being named Honorable Mention All-State.

7. TRAVRUS BROWN

YEARS: 2005-07
COLLEGE: SAU

AT 6' 175 pounds, Brown possessed 4.4 speed and showcased every opportunity he got. An outstanding Kick Returner as well as Wide Receiver, Brown's game was predicated on getting him the ball quick, or deep. He too was a prisoner to the date, as the offense was not nearly as developed as it is now. With more opportunities, Brown would've finished with more than just 9 receiving touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns.

6. DORIAN LEONARD

Years: 2011-13
College: Texas

At 6'5 190 lbs., Dorian looked like a man child on the high school field. He got his first varsity action as a sophomore, but it took a little time for it to come together for him. As a junior he had 4 touchdowns in a shaky passing year with Bivins Caraway injured.  A fiery competitor, Leonard alongside Dez Chumley, caught 11 TDS his senior year before heading to the University of Texas.

5. Eric Hawkins

YEARS: 2010-11
College: Arkansas

Eric Hawkins had one of the best seasons imaginable in 2011. He scored 10 TDS his senior year and caught 41 passes for 994 yards at LONGVIEW. His speed was bar none, a state silver medalist in the 200 meters and bronze in the 100 meters. Had Eric produced his junior year, (3 catches, 2 TDs) the same way he did his senior year, we're talking about a GOAT candidate.

4. Carey Fortson

YEARS: 2008-09
COLLEGE: LA. TECH, KILGORE, NICHOLLS STATE

Juice. With that nickname alone you know what you're getting out of a 6' 170 lbs receiver. Fortson, a legit 4.4 40 runner, had the foot speed to leave defenders in the dust. Whether it was juking his way for a kickoff return touchdown, or flying by people for a career 13 TDs, Carey was leaving his mark. From a personal standpoint, he's one of the biggest competitors that I've ever been around. With one leg he gave us everything he had against Lake Travis in 2009. Surely a fan favorite, Juice cemented his Lobo legacy.

3. Malcolm Kelly

YEARS: 2002-04
COLLEGE: OKLAHOMA

The most physically imposing receiver to come through Longview, Malcolm Kelly. Before leaving us with the freestyle heard around the world, Kelly left his mark as a 3 year letterman at Longview. His numbers are modest, just the career record of 17 Lobo Touchdowns, the 6'4 just calmly and smoothly ran post and jump ball fades at LHS. After leaving Longview he continued his dominance at OU, starting as a freshman, wearing #2 making an one handed catch at Oregon. He returned to number 4 and continued dominance for another 2 years at OU before being drafted in the 2nd round by Washington. His career was damned by hamstring and quad issues, but his legacy in Longview forever remains.

2. Kamden Perry

YEARS: 2016-18
College: UIW

Through the first 17 games of Kamden Perry's career it seemed he wouldn't sniff this list. But as the playoffs came approaching, Perry's game was starting to rise. As a sophomore, Perry caught 8 passes for 118 yards and 1 touchdown. Those numbers/fame/clout rose his junior year. He caught 42 passes for 600 yards and 4 touchdowns, including the best catch in program history in the 4th round versus rival Lufkin. His senior season is as good as they come on this list. Perry caught 87 passes for 1,896 yards, 18 touchdowns as well as becoming Texas All time leader in receiving yards in the state game with 218. For a career he caught 137 passes for 2,614 yards and 23 touchdowns. Kamden is the career leader in receptions and yards for a career.

1. Jalen Hale

Years: 2019-22
College: Alabama

First freshman ever to ever start the year off on varsity. His 7 catches and 3 touchdowns may seem pretty modest, but for him to touch the field and play in meaningful snaps as a freshman should show you the talent. As a sophomore, he did almost everything except eclipse the GOAT. 39 catches for 699 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore, but he did it every way possible. Screens, deep balls, short catches and runs.
Junior Year: There's no doubt. We finally got a glimpse of what Jalen Hale with a Haynes King talent at Quarterback could do, when paired up with Josh Thomas at the end of 2021. IN the playoffs Hale put up 17 catches for 395 yards and 5 TDS. Talk about a damn near perfect conclusion for Hale as a senior. Hale, who arguably was still underused, caught 50 passes for 1,154 yards and 14 touchdowns in 15 games. He put up monster performances in the 2nd round going over 100 yards and 2 touchdowns against Jesuit, 3rd Round over 150 yards and 2 touchdowns versus Port Arthur Memorial, and 5th round against Aledo he provided the only points in a heartbreaking 17-14 loss.
