So for all the flack I've been catching for not including the 1997 team, I've finally came up with a formula to compare the teams by. I for one, am not a fan of comparing teams from different era. The 90s should be tied to themselves, 2000-2006 should be in their own category, and from 2007 to now should have it's own category. Football is played in many different ways over the course of 20 years with the addition of the spread offense, and the advancements and awareness of recruiting.
Nonetheless, here's the comparison you've all been waiting for. There will be 5 different categories to measure these teams by:
1. Players that signed for college: Top teams typically have top talent. Players who have top talent typically go to college for it. Each team will receive 3 points per player that signed to play somewhere. This stat can't be too high, because most larger players are given scholarships based off potential rather than actual performance. (College Players came from my knowledge and the former players link on lobosfootball.com)
2. How far did they go in the playoffs? Teams that go deep in the playoffs need to be rewarded. For every round a team advances they'll receive 10 points.
3. Strength of Schedule. For 6/5A the point differential will be divided by 2, for 5/4A the point differential will be divided by 4. For instance, say the 2005 and 2008 team had a point differential of 400 at the end of the season. 2005's total for being in the largest classification of Texas would be 200. Now for the 2008 team that played 4A, their score would be 100 for playing in a lower classification.
4. All State: Players with big performances for their teams should be rewarded. Players that made first team all state will receive 10 points. Second teamers will receive 8, and third team state guys will receive 6 points for their squad.
5. District: If a team won the district title that year they will receive 10 points.
6. Wins: Each win a team earned will be multiplied by 10. 14 wins = 140 points.
The top teams will be in order from chronological order:

The Top Dogs and Top Team from the past 20 years is the 1997 by the numbers. It burns me up on the inside to know that I had to divide the smaller districts by 4, but the districts were clearly way easier on the 5A/4A levels. There were no 45-0 blowout wins in the 6A/5A districts, and if there were they were deserving. So congrats to the top team 1997 team for being the statistical best team of Longview.
