Top 10 from the Weekend:

The Good
10. How bout dem Lobos!?
King said it the best last week about this team having “it.” It can’t be described; it’s sorta just there with these kids. We’ve got one D1 kid on the team and he plays about 11 snaps a game as a kicker. I couldn’t be any more proud of this group and am excited to work at least one more week around these young men.
Longview Defense rallied after giving up the first 14 points to win 30-24.

9. Isaiah Spiller is the real deal.
The junior Oklahoma commit from Klein Collins is LEGIT. At 6’1 185, he has a great balance of shiftiness and power that is difficult to stop. He wears 28, maybe because he wants to be like Sooner great Adrian Peterson. If so, he’s got some of that in him. He’s not a perfect comparison to AP, but the guy has talent that won’t be denied at OU or at Klein next year for that matter.

8. How bout dem Cowboys!?
It’s been awhile since I’ve gotten to scream that. It was a little iffy there at the beginning, but thanks to turnovers from the Redskins and a little white boy magic from Ryan Switzer, the Cowboys finally tasted a little bit of victory. The Zeke suspension is still in effect, and the boys still have to play 2 more games without him. If Dallas can find a way to be 7-7 in 2 weeks, they could very well sneak their way into the Wild Card. To that, every NFC team should be screaming LOOK OUT!

The Bad

7. UCF
The Knights from Central Florida won’t get an opportunity to play in the CFP this year, and to be honest they deserve it. I understand strength of schedules, but what else could those players do? They’ve defeated every opponent that was placed in front of them, including a 62-55 thriller against Memphis Saturday. There wasn’t a better opportunity to put a team that’s not in the Power 5 in the CFP. Every team in the playoff has 1 lost, and all of them look really bad. Take Clemson’s lost to Syracuse, inexcusable no Kelly Bryant or not. Oklahoma lost to Iowa State at HOME, a game in which Baker Mayfield played the entirety: inexcusable. Georgia was smoked by Auburn, 17-40, as the number one team in the country. Alabama lost by 12 to Auburn, 14-26, a team that they beat 7 out of 10 times if they played. I get, it Power 5 Conferences have better teams, but if we’re not going to allow undefeated non Power 5 schools in, let’s let them compete amongst each other, or in the FCS. What more could they do?
UCF got snubbed out of the playoffs.

6. Ohio State following
Hey you guys! Shut up. In a year where there are 4 Power 5 schools with just one lost and a non power 5 school that’s undefeated, you don’t deserve to be in the CFP. Matter of fact, I’d rather look at Wisconsin than you guys. Let’s start with the obvious: you lost to Oklahoma at home. You don’t deserve anymore opportunities to prove what you could do playing the upper echelon. You didn’t just lose but you got smoked, and you allowed Baker to plant the OU flag in the middle of your beloved stadium. He would’ve had to see me had I been on the field. “Ok so Oklahoma’s pretty good, a lot of teams would’ve lost to them.” What about the drubbing you got to Iowa at their place. Iowa came out in their off black uniforms, looking like the Gotham City Bats and whooped on y’all as if you were the Joker. 2 ugly losses in one season won’t be rewarded. Sorry, not sorry.
Boo Hoo!

5. Philadelphia Eagles
“Hey Philadelphia, here’s a Snickers. You’re not yourselves when you’re hungry.” I have no idea what they were trying to do on offense last night, but it didn’t work. You guys literally have the best offensive personnel in football: Wents, Ajayi, Blount, Barner, Aghlor, Jeffrey, Ertz, Torrey Smith. There’s no reason for them to perform that bad. That was an opportunity to cement themselves as an elite. Now is the season over for them? Unfortunately, no. But for them to perform so poorly, against ½ of the Legion of Boom, has to be concerning in the weeks going forward.

Predictions

4. The Rematch
This game is going to be exciting to watch between Clemson and Alabama. Of course Clemson is the number 1 seed and Dabo has Bryant Kelly looking like DeShaun snuck in a #2 jersey, but Alabama is still Alabama. For the first time in a long time, Alabama has a reason to be vengeful and it’ll be interesting story line in this game. After losing in such a dramatic fashion last season, will Alabama be too locked in? Will their players play themselves out of position because they’re too emotional? I don’t think it’ll happen but it’ll sure be fun to watch. Jalen Hurts ran for yardage last year on Clemson’s defense, but the Tigers defensive front seems better than the year before after the Miami (which I knew it was too early to believe in them) beat down. Saban’s a genius, and his legacy can’t take a hit if he loses, but oh does it grow if he shuts Clemson down. I like the Tigers in a rematch of the 2017 Natty, 44-28.
This is the REMATCH (DEBO Voice)

3. Boomer Bulldogs?
Coming off a Heisman trophy acceptance, Baker Mayfield will have a lot going for him. This will be his 2nd appearance in the 2 year history of the CFP and he’ll have an opportunity to prove that the Big 12 is just as good as the SEC. Now will all that happen, I’m not sure. Oklahoma is the hottest team going into the CFP, but Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart, is well smart. There’s no doubt in my mind he’ll have a plan to shut down the Sooners spread attack, and the Bulldogs offensively will pile it straight ahead at the Sooners and see if they can handle tackling 2 of the nation’s top backs. Kirby Smart was the defensive coordinator when Oklahoma trounced the Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl back when Trevor Knight QB’d the Sooners to a victory, plus Baker Mayfield reminds me a lot of a guy that wore #2 back at A&M who beat on Alabama’s defense two years in a row. I think the SEC takes L’s this year, setting up an offensive firework show between two incredible offenses in the Natty.
The Guy is vedy vedy talented.

Jaylin and Jalen Top5 IDC IDC IDC

2. Jalen Carr has 10 interceptions this year for the Longview Lobos, and only one was gift wrapped to him. The guy has shown the ability to leap and catch the ball at the highest level, and Saturday was just another example. There aren’t too many guys who’ve come through the program and have been able to play the ball in the air, and come down with it. 10 picks, gets him close for the school record with Sherman Rosborough, and he’s got at least one more game to play. I like his chances.

Jalen's 10 interception of the season.

1. Jaylin Brown is a man. I understand why he doesn’t have a major D1 offer, but then again I don’t. He’s a bit of a tweener because he’s not exceptionally tall or fast. But at 6’2 215 lbs. Brown is a guy that can flat out ball. We’ve never seen this much production from not just a tight end, but any receiver before. He’s got 12 touchdowns on the season, 21 for a career, and an opportunity Saturday to add even more to his stats. We’re all waiting on for one of these schools to be smart and offer, but when they do, whoever gets him will be jubilant 4 years from now.
Whoever snags this guy will be very happy campers.
