It's been an incredible 10 years of Lobo Football and there's been a ton of great players who have donned the green, white and gold. Here are the Top 100 Players of the 2010-19 Decade.
100. Justin Spady
Years: 2011-12
Position: WR
Madden Rating: 77
Justin Spady was a productive receiver for the Lobos in 2011 and 2012, his senior year finishing with 30 catches for 451 yards and 4 touchdowns. Had Spady had the opportunity to play with Bivins Caraway III his numbers would've been different. Nonetheless, he comes in at 100.
99. Karbohn McAdoo
Years: 2013-14
Position: DE
Madden Rating:82
Fast, explosive end who was as unconventional as they came. He played with a weird crouching tiger stance that allowed him to get all of the football, and played well enough to receive first team all-district honors in 2014.
98. Kendravian White
Years: 2015-16
Position: LB/RB
Madden Rating: 80
A back with an it factor type vision, White was an instinctive runner with the ability bounce and pop long runs. He was moved to linebacker his junior year, but when depth became an issue at running back he made an appearance against Marshall. His senior year was a huge year, starting the year off going over 200 against Lufkin. White finished 2016 with 18 touchdowns in only 11 games played that season.
97. Cameron Quinney
Years: 2016
Position: RG
Madden Rating: 77
At 6'3 325, Quinney was a late bloomer, but when he figured it out he was a monster. He figured out how to use his weight with leverage and really became a force for the offensive line. He finished the year out first team all-district after a great senior year.
96. Jhaston Faggans
Years: 2010-11
Position: RB
Madden Rating: 81
As a junior Faggans ran for 1,234 yards in 13 games as his season was cut short after an ankle injury. Faggans was a bruiser with great straight line speed. As a senior, Faggans went over a 1,000 yards again, rushing for a career high 212 yards against Garland Sachse in the 2nd round of the playoffs in 2011.
95. Bryan Gilliland
Years: 2014-15
Position: LB/DE
Madden Rating: 84
A guy that played with relentless tenacity, Gilliland was a hammer at the defensive end position his senior year. As a junior, he served on special teams and had a reserve role at linebacker. Gilliland was a monster, finishing his senior being named first team all-district.
94. Eric Timberlake
Years: 2015-16
Position: WR
Madden Rating: 83
Speed, speed, speed if you needed to describe Timberlake's game in 3 words. Timberlake was a blazer for Longview in the 2 varsity seasons he played. He got moved up late in the year in 2015 as a sophomore, but really became the number 1 receiver for Gaylon Wiley in 2016. Timberlake finished with over 500 yards and 4 touchdowns en route to being named second team all-district.
93. Tray Nelson
Years: 2014
Position: OL
Madden Rating: 82
Nelson was an athletic lineman for Longview in 2014, playing right tackle for the Lobos earning his way to first team all district. At 6'1 270, Nelson had the motor and size to be a dominant run and pass blocker for the Lobos.
92. Paul Hutchins
Years: 2016-17
Position: FB
Madden Rating: 78
Paul Hutchins was an absolute hammer at the fullback position. Not known for expertise running skill, Hutchins was one of the best blocking fullbacks to come through. He was named first team all-district at the position in 2017.
91. Marcus Williams
Years: 2016-18
Position: LT
Madden Rating: 81
We got the opportunity to watch the state champion Williams transform from a giraffe to a mammoth by the time he graduated. At 6'7 1/2, Williams towered over the opposition from a young age. As a sophomore he was the back up left tackle. His junior year was cut short as he suffered a season ending injury to his ankle. As a senior, Williams protected Haynes King blindside for 16 games as he helped Longview win a state championship before leaving for TCU.
90. Stacy Nelson
Years: 2014-15
Position: DT
Madden Rating: 84
A dominant run stopper, Stacy Nelson was a plug in the middle of the defensive line for the Lobos. As a senior he was named first team all-district and was a key component to a defense that helped the team advance to the 4th round, losing to Mansfield Lake Ridge.
89. Britton Eastburn
Years: 2010
Position: DE
Madden Rating: 81
The Shagster was supposed to be the greatest middle linebacker to ever walk earth. Britton's 6'1 and weighed 215 as a freshman. After 2 back injuries and a couple of ACL tears, Britton was a limited version of the man who started his sophomore year at outside linebacker. Nonetheless his senior year Britton was still stronger than the average high schooler, and he used that strength to take on double teams and absolutely destroy backs in the running game. His effort was good enough to be named first team all-district. Not bad Dr. Eastburn.
88. Jordan Wyatt
Years: 2014-15
Position: Tight End
Madden Rating: 87
A speed threat from the tight end position, as a junior, Wyatt made 7 huge catches in a 28 point comeback victory in the playoffs against Lufkin. That just catapulted a big year for Wyatt. Wyatt excelled his senior year to being named 3rd team all state after a 6 touchdown performance. He cut stretch the field vertically, and when he caught the ball he was just as explosive after the catch.
87. Kaden Kearbey
Years: 2017-19
Position: Wide Receiver
Madden Rating: 85
Kearbo. The youngster made his first varsity appearance as a sophomore on the 2017 team, but really showed up in 2018. As a junior he had 33 catches for 621 yards and 6 touchdowns, including a huge catch for a touchdown in the state title game against Westbrook. His senior year was disappointing. Kearbey had a chance to climb the list, but only had 23 catches for 327 yards and 4 touchdowns. For a career Kearbey had 56 catches for 948 yards and 10 touchdowns.
86. Marquis Hunter
Years: 2012-14
Position: Fullback
Madden Rating: 89
An absolute bull running the ball, soft hands when catching it, Hunter was a couple of hamstring pulls away from probably being top 50. Hunter rushed for 12 touchdowns throughout his career and finished his senior year being named 3rd Team All-State.
85. Chris Kessler
Years: 2015-17
Position: Kicker
Madden Rating: 82
3 Year lettermen at kicker, and is tied for the school record for field goals in one season with 11 in 2017, and is tied 2nd all time for the most field goals in school history with 20. Kessler could consistently punch the ball out the back of the end zone, and although his career didn't end on a great note, he still was an outstanding high school kicker.
84. Jhavaurian Moore
Years: 2012-13
Position: Cornerback
Madden Rating: 82
Moore was a great corner during his playing days. As a junior he came in through nickel package, but as a senior he started at cornerback. At 5'8 170 pounds he played well enough to earn 1st team all-district honors.
83. Khalil Williams
Years: 2013-14
Position: Safety
Madden Rating: 82
Long, rangy, physical down safety for Longview in 2013 and 14, Khalil Williams was a producer for the Lobos. As a senior Williams finished as a first-team all district selection and was apart of the group that made an epic 28 point comeback against Lufkin in the first round.
82. D'Crayvan Polk
Years: 2014-16
Position: Running Back
Madden Rating: 86
An immensely talented running back who had all the physical skills to be a big time producer. A part of a crowded backfield throughout his career, Polk's numbers would be different had he been apart of a different classification. For a career, Polk ran for 21 touchdowns, and caught one more making a total of 22 touchdowns.
81. Marcus Polk
Years: 2014-15
Position: Left Tackle
Madden Rating: 85
Polk's career was filled with injuries, but his senior year his body didn't betray him and he put in work. A part of the team that went 4 deep in the playoffs losing to Lake Ridge, Polk may have been the most physically gifted out of the group. He was first team all-district his senior year, capping an awesome senior year.
80. Kyas Moore
Years: 2018-19
Position: Wide Receiver
Madden Rating: 86
Kyas in his one year starting at Wide Receiver made big plays during the 2019 season. His promise started his junior year when Kyas made the biggest catch of the state championship game, a post route to put Longview in incredible position to win the game. He finished his junior year with 4 catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. As a senior Kyas was the number one receiver and produced with Haynes King. He caught 38 passes for 792 yards and 4 touchdowns.
79. Kyle Johnson
Years: 2015-17
Position: Safety
Madden Rating: 83
Kyle was hot and cold throughout his career. His sophomore year he looked fantastic in role play. He stepped up in spots and made plays and looked like the next star in the secondary. His junior was a little indifferent. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the guy we thought he'd be. His senior year though, especially the playoff run, Johnson was the guy. He'll forever be a memory for the hit he put on Waco Midway quarterback Tanner Mordecai in the 4th quarter of his final game. We needed a turnover and Kyle ran over and put his helmet right on the ball and popped it loose. We know the end to the story.
78. Ja'Quan Edwards
Years: 2016-17
Position: Running Back
Madden Rating: 84
Lightening quick with great speed, Ja'Quan Edwards did some really good things with the ball in his hands at running back. His junior he played sparingly, but when Jessie Anderson went down, Edwards and Keilyn Williams shared the load at tailback. Edwards finished with 13 career touchdowns, and also provided a spark in the kick game as well.
77. Tim Polk
Years: 2018-19
Position: Right Tackle
Madden Rating: 84
There wasn't a more lovable guy on the team this year than Tim Polk. Seeing where he started and where he finished made me a fan, and I rooted for Tim each week. Playful banters turned into promises as Tim Polk dominated the 2019 regular season before missing the final 3 games with a MCL sprain. Tim is sure to finish as a first team all-district selection and expect honorable mention all-state status as well.
76. Ja'Quale Darden
Years: 2010
Position: Cornerback
Madden Rating: 84
In his one year of varsity experience, Darden made the most out of it. With 7 interceptions, 4 coming in the post season, Darden was as impact as they come. He boasted a high vertical leap that allowed him to extend way further than his 5'8 size would allow. His timing was impact and so was his play and mark on the 2010 Lobos.
75. Antonio Carter
Years: 2013-14
Position: Receiver
Madden Rating: 84
The original AC. Antonio Carter was an explosive receiver in 2014, scoring all 7 of his touchdowns receptions that year. He was the leading receiver in 2014 on a team that was beat by Mansfield Lake Ridge. At 6'2 180, Carter could stretch the field, and when he wanted to make a play, he couldn't be stopped.
74. Robert Pierce
Years: 2017-19
Position: Safety
Madden Rating: 83
Roc got pulled up late his sophomore year to be apart of the ride, but was one of the reasons Longview won state in 2018. His 6 interception performance that season was huge. For the 2019 season Robert missed time and finished the year with 27 tackles, 3 interceptions and 3 pass break ups.
73. Cedric Smith
Years: 2018-19
Position: Linebacker
Madden Rating: 87
Cedric Smith spent his junior year backing up JaVante Writt and Tyshawn Taylor and didn't play a tremendous amount of defensive snaps that year. He did run down on kickoff, and the young man caught himself a share of bodies. As a senior, Smith stepped into a starting linebacker role and made the most of it, finishing 2019 with 67 tackles, 5 for loss, 2 sacks, 4 fumble recoveries, 1 for a touchdown, 3 interceptions and 3 pass break ups.
72. Kendall Starling
Years: 2014-2016
Position: Guard and Center
Madden Rating: 86
A 3 year starter, a part time starter as a sophomore, a full time starter at left guard in 2015, which is probably the best offensive line King has had, and a full time starter at center in 2016. An intelligent lineman with a mean streak, Starling is one to remember.
71. DeRoderick Alexander
Years: 2012-13
Position: Defensive Tackle
Madden Rating: 84
Madden Rating: 84
Deroderick was an explosive defensive tackle who fans might not remember because he was a little bit overshadowed by his teammates. Playing alongside, Cornelious Williams, Zay Henderson, Jalen Porter and Tre Allen, Alexander was just as good. He played the run well, and was disruptive in the passing game as well. He finished as a second team all-district selection as a junior and as a senior he was a first team all-district selection.
70. Larry Thomas
Years: 2010-11
Position: Defensive End
Madden Rating: 84
Position: Defensive End
Madden Rating: 84
LT was a dog. He figured out late his junior year making sacks against Belton and Tomball in the playoffs. His senior he turned out a dominant year, making first team all-district at end before moving on to TJC.
69. Stephan Maxey
Years: 2011-13
Position: Safety
Madden Rating: 85
Position: Safety
Madden Rating: 85
A 3 year lettermen at safety, Maxey was impact from the jump. He could make plays on the ball and go up and get interceptions as well as be a threat in the run game as well. Maxey was first-team all-district his senior year.
68. Kybrien Jackson-Jamerson
Years: 2018-19
Position: Outside Linebacker
Madden Rating: 87
Kybo was a back up at OLB in 2018, but got his opportunity to start in 2019. Jackson-Jamerson finished 2019 with 58 tackles, 9 for loss, 5 sacks, as well as 3 pass break ups. He's bound to be first team all-district as his biggest moment of the year when he knocked Jaxon Smith-Njigba from Rockwall out of the game with a vicious hit.
67. Omar French
Years: 2013-14
Position: DL
Madden Rating: 86
Madden Rating: 86
At 6'2 220, French was a little light to be on the defensive line, but don't tell that to his opponents. The long, rangy defender could strike with the best of them and was a real nuisance to offenses. A first team all-district defensive lineman as a senior, French had some game.
66. Jordan Whitaker
Years: 2012-13
Position: Tight End
Madden Rating: 87
The hooper turned tight end. At 6'3, Whitaker was like Longview's version of Jimmy Graham. Whitaker could stretch the field vertically, and was one of Dez Chumley's favorite targets in 2013. Whitaker caught 24 passes for 320 yards and 8 touchdowns that year.
65. Anthony Wiley
Years: 2010
Position: Linebacker
Madden Rating: 87
A three year letterman, 2 year starter, Anthony Wiley is one of the most athletic guys to play the LB position at Longview. At 6'1 190 pounds, the former running back had great vision that allowed him to anticipate runs. He finished 2010 first team all-district and his impact with his play left a huge mark on the 2010 Lobos.
64. Zach Gibson
Years: 2014-15
Position: Guard and Center
Madden Rating: 83
An intelligent center in 2015, Gibson was a key cog up front for the best o-line Longview has had this decade. He was aggressive, but most importantly he made sure the line calls were correct and everyone was on the same page. His play was good enough to be named 3rd team All-State as a senior.
63. Kyle Jenkins
Years: 2010
Position: Kicker
Madden Rating: 84
"Baby Kyle." Kyle got that nickname I believe from Vinny Portley in 2008, but the 5'8 155 pounder played way larger than a baby. Throughout his 3 year career Kyle set the record for the most field goals made throughout a career with 22. As a sophomore he split time with Marty Hobbs, but was a full time starter for his junior and senior years. He kicked a 55 yarder in the state semifinal against Denton Guyer in 2010. His senior year he set the school record for most field goals in a year with 11. He was rated as a 2 star prospect on ESPN. All hail, Baby Kyle.
62. Roshordrick Harmon
Years: 2015-17
Position: CB
Madden Rating: 84
At 6' 180 pounds, Heavy was the ideal corner you want on the edge of your defense. He was big enough to play the run, but also had the athleticism to keep up with your number 1 receiver. As a sophomore, he got his first start at safety against Lufkin, and honestly, he looked like he belonged. He was moved to corner afterwards for depth purposes, but turned into the man his junior year. He finished 2nd team all-district that year, and in his senior year he finished 1st team all-district. Heavy struggled on the playoff run his senior year, but played the biggest in his final game. After giving up a quick route all game long, he picked off Tanner Mordecai and returned an interception to the house. It was called back for block in the back, but that play in the game showed the player he was capable of being.
61. Ke'Aundre Mauldin
Years: 2016-17
Position: TE/DE
Madden Rating: 82
One of the few people this decade to actually play both sides of the ball, and I'm sure he's on a short list of Lobos to catch an interception and a touchdown in a game. Mauldin started his junior season out as a tight end. Mid-season, the need was on the defensive line and he moved over to the defensive side of the ball. He finished the year with 4 sacks, all coming in the final 5 games of the season. That performance sprung his senior year where Mauldin had 62 tackles, 9 for loss, and 3 sacks.
60. Keenan Madden
Years: 2014-15
Position: Safety
Madden Rating: 84
A two time first team all-district selection, Madden always was in the right spot at the right time. Statistically he was better as a junior, making 85 tackles, 3 fumble recoveries, 1 for a touchdown, and 5 interceptions. As a senior he had 58 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries on a team that went to the 4th round, losing to Mansfield Lake Ridge.
59. Tory White
Years: 2010-12
Position: RB
Madden Rating: 87
I played with him for a snap as a senior while he was a sophomore. He got a toss against Mesquite Horn in the 4th round of playoffs. He gained 18 yards on the play, and from that moment on I knew he was going to be excellent. Tory White is probably the best back you've forgotten over the past decade. Tory had blazing speed, proving it by having the longest rush in history in 2012, going 99 against Dallas Jesuit. His senior year Tory posted two efforts north of 200 yards, going for 232 against Lufkin and 240 against Dallas Jesuit, which ranks 14th all-time in school history, and he's 22nd all-time in rushing touchdowns with 21.
58. Tre Allen
Years: 2012
Position: DE
Madden Rating: 86
Allen played in just 8 games in Longview after transferring from Chapel Hill, but the man was an animal in those 8 games. Allen had 49 tackles, 18 for loss, 12 sacks in just those 8 games. Had he played in all 13 games that season, there's no telling what his numbers would have been.
57. Colin Jeter
Years: 2011-12
Position: TE
Madden Rating: 87
Colin Jeter wasn't super productive while in high school. His sophomore year he played JV, even though we lobbied for him during the playoffs. His junior year, he had Caraway and was productive, catching touchdowns for a team that went to the 3rd round. Caraway getting hurt ruined his shot at having an All-State senior year that I thought he was capable of having. Jeter finished his career with 6 touchdowns before moving on to Air Force, Kilgore, LSU, being picked up by the Buccaneers, released and now recently he was drafted to participate in the XFL. The Jeter story never ends.
56. Tim Clay
Years: 2014-15
Position: RG
Madden Rating: 88
At 6'6 380 pounds, Tim Clay was larger than life. Whenever his mitts were on you there was nothing you could do about it. Clay had amazing feat for a man his size and finished his senior year first team all-district. He was a valuable member of King's best o-line this decade. He signed with Kilgore College out of high school.
55. Jaylon Jackson
Years: 2012-14
Position: LB
Madden Rating: 86
A 2 year starter at middle linebacker, Jackson had great speed and used it to plug holes and spill ball carriers. As a senior he posted 78 tackles, 7 for loss, 2 sacks during the regular season. That team won the district championship and helped comeback from a 28-0 deficit against Lufkin. He was second team all-district as a junior also helping Longview win another district title.
54. Michael Ross
Years: 2014-15
Position: QB
Madden Rating: 86
The most undervalued quarterback to come through Longview. Blessed with a huge offensive line in front of him, Ross quarterbacked the Lobos all the way to the 4th round and went blow for blow with Mansfield Lake Ridge losing 56-53. He went 4-8 that game with 213 yards throwing for 3 touchdowns to 0 interceptions. His playoff run was really impressive, making big plays in big moments for the team. The third down conversion he had against Mansfield Summit to Braylnn Anthony kept our season alive. He played really clean against Wylie, throwing 6 for 7 for 132 yards. Ross finished 2015 first team all-district at quarterback.
53. Ja'Vontae Writt
Years: 2016-18
Position: LB
Madden Rating: 84
As a senior, Writt was second team All East-Texas after 128 tackles, 16 for loss, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and a pass break up for the State Champion Longview Lobos. As a junior he had 102 tackles, 11 for loss, 3 sacks, 6 fumble recoveries, and 2 interceptions. Writt had a knack for being in the right place at the right time. In his first varsity action as a sophomore he recovered a fumble. That sort of set the precedent for his career.
52. Dakirin Buchanan
Years: 2018-19
Position: Cornerback
Madden Rating: 87
At 6'1 180 lbs and the ability to jump out the gym, Buchanan is an intimidating force at the corner position. He's been moved to different positions throughout his career, but when he took over the starting job his junior year he found a home at corner. Due to his size most teams won't even look in his direction, but for the few who do, Buchanan's going to be there to make a play on the ball. As as senior Dakirin finished with 33 tackles, 3 for loss and 14 pass break ups.
51. Torrean Sheppard
Years: 2010-12
Position: LB
Madden Rating: 88
Sheppard was a baller. He just happened to play next to the best linebacker in King's realm. As a senior he tied for the lead in tackles with Corey Bartley and DeMarkus Lathan with 138 tackles. Shep was smart. Both in the classroom and on the field. You couldn't run a play twice on him without him being on the tackle that second time. As a sophomore he was eager to learn and jump in, (I taught him a lesson from time to time) but he turned out to be a great player for the Wolf Pack.
50. A'Darius Carter
Years: 2016-17
Position: ATH
Madden Rating: 85
Carter was an impact wherever he lined up at. When he played QB he had a bazooka on his shoulder, and ran behind his pads. At all of 6'3 220, Carter punished would be tacklers and had deceptive breakaway speed. As a junior he returned a pooch kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown dropping a mean stiff arm on his way to the crib. That running ability transferred to his senior season as he rushed for 12 touchdowns in 2017 out of the wildcat package. He tied the school record for rushing touchdowns in a game with 5 against Tyler Lee. When he wasn't catching the snap he was catching passes. After the 2nd game of the season Carter was moved to wide receiver and had a successful season out wide. He caught 8 touchdowns passes which ties him 7th in school history for touchdowns in a season.
49. Diop Johnson
Year: 2010
Position: LB
Madden Rating: 85
A 3 year letterman, 2 year starter, whose game was as rugged as his style was. No gloves. No tape. Just downhill football ready to destroy whatever that came his way. At 5'7 185 pounds, there was nothing intimidating about Diop. But when the ball was snapped he was a missile. Most linebackers that struggle here have a hard time taking on blocks. Not Diop. In 2009 and 2010 he was a 2nd team all-district linebacker, but in 2010 he missed 3 weeks due to a sprained ACL. He had the biggest brace I've ever seen, but he declined surgery and kept playing ball. Diop was a lion.
48. Vernon Hutchins
Year: 2011-13
Position: LG
Madden Rating: 87
A 3 year starter, Hutchins was a very talented guard. He had quick get off, a strong punch, and was willing to finish the block, an art that seems to get lost nowadays. Vern was a staple of the offensive lines those years, and if he were 6'3, he'd been in the NFL.
47. Johnathon Sneed
Year: 2014-15
Position: OL
Madden Rating: 88
As athletic as 5'11 290 can get. As a freshman he was a guard on the basketball team, (on the freshman team albeit) and that athleticism allowed him to flourish as an offensive lineman. His junior he started at center, and just like a predecessor, he was moved to tackle his senior year. His foot speed and quickness allowed him to secure edge blocks, and he could be as dominant as anyone in the run game. The best lineman on what I consider the best O-Line of the decade.
46. Kaylon Allen
Year: 2016-18
Position: OL
Madden Rating: 86
A 2 year starter who started at 3 different positions throughout his career: center, right guard and right tackle. As a sophomore he was a reserve lineman, but started his junior year at center. After an injury, Kaylon returned back to the starting lineup at right tackle after Marcus Williams went down at left tackle. He finished and played the remainder of the season at tackle. As a senior, Kaylon started 16 games at right guard and was first-team all district both years as a starter.
45. Kevion Bush
Year: 2016-17
Position: LB
Madden Rating: 87
Bush was my pop's favorite running back to watch on JV, and was disappointed in "King" for moving his favorite to linebacker. That lasted about 2 seconds until he saw him play linebacker. Now "King" is a genius again. Bush excelled his senior year, he finished with 111 tackles, 6 for a loss, 1 sack, and a blocked punt return for a touchdown.
44. Dakota Anthony
Year: 2010
Position: Fullback
Madden Rating: 89
Dakota is the perfect image of 2010. A misfit team full of misfit toys. At 5'6 165 pounds, he's one of the best pound for pound players to play at Longview. A 2 year starter at fullback, (2009, 2010) Anthony could mash the dive, block for the power, and catch the ball out of the backfield. When J'Haston Faggans went down in 2010, Anthony moved back to tailback and toted the rock. He finished the 3rd round game against Tomball, and started the 4th and 5th round games. For a career, Anthony has 14 rushing touchdowns.
43. Marcus Harry
Years: 2016-18
Position: OL
Madden Rating: 87
As a sophomore Harry was moved up as the reserve right tackle, but he didn't play until his junior year. He started the season off at right tackle but after Marcus Williams went down, he was moved to elft tackle. He finished the season at left tackle and was all-district. As a senior, Harry started all 16 games at right tackle, grading out at 92%, and did not blow an assignment all season long. He finished as a 2nd Team All-Stater.
42. JC Blakemore
Years: 2016-17
Position: DE
Madden Rating: 85
Heart and effort. Best two words to describe Blakemore's play. After seizures ruined his freshman year, it wasn't a given if this man would even play football. He returned to the gridiron in 2016 and his play honestly was sub par, but he went to work in 2017. 77 tackles, 20 for loss, 8 sacks were his stat-line which is impressive for a 5'10 186 pounds defensive lineman. He didn't say a lot, but his play spoke volumes.
41. Kybrian Sheridan
Years: 2014-15
Position: DE
Madden Rating: 87
In his junior season, Sheridan flashed potential with a big game against Neville, being named player of the week. He sort of fizzed out that season, but exploded the following season, being named District Defensive MVP. Sheridan had over 80 tackles and 11 sacks as a senior. He started off as just a finesse lineman, but by the end of the year he was just as formidable as a run stopper as he was pass rusher.
40. Dezmond Chumley
Years: 2012-14
Position: QB
Madden Rating: 86
Dez is second in all time passing touchdowns with 62 and added another 13 on the ground. Through his 3 seasons he accounted or 75 touchdowns. Before Haynes, arrived he left Longview as the greatest passer in school history. He's also one of the best 2 sport athletes to grace LHS. He set the school record for triples in one season and led him getting drafted in the MLB Draft.
39. Bivins Caraway III
Years: 2010-12
Position: Quarterback
Madden Rating: 89
Though he was a 3 year letterman, Caraway only had one year to start due to injury. In his junior year Caraway threw for about 2,500 yards in a 13 game sample throwing for 22 touchodowns and running 6. Had he not been injured in the first half of the first game of his senior year he would sit way higher on the all-time passing numbers.
38. Jordan Burton
Years: 2010-11
Position: Safety
Madden Rating: 87
Jordan Burton, a 3 year lettermen, is one of the most resilient, intelligent players in Lobo History. As a sophomore in 2009, he logged 28 tackles as a corner and filling in at safety. His junior year he started at strong safety earning a second-team all district in 2010 after a 110 tackles, 1 interception and 2 forced fumbles. As a senior he started all 13 games and totaled 106 tackles, 3 for loss and 4 pass break ups; as well as averaging 12 yards on punt returns and even housed one back that year.
37. Nakia Brown
Years: 2010-12
Position: Cornerback
Madden Rating: 88
The best punt returner in school history. Nakia returned 4 punts back to the crib his senior year, a school record. On top of being a standout in the return game he was a stand out defensive back during his time as well. As a sophomore he was pulled up for depth at corner, and with is physical style of ball, he wound up being the starting backer during the playoffs. As a senior he finished as a first team all-district corner.
36. Gavin Roberts
Years: 2016-18
Position: LG
Madden Rating: 86
At 5'10, 290, Roberts, due to injury, had to step in and start at left guard from day 1 his sophomore year. Gavin struggled at times that season, but nonetheless started 10/11 games as a sophomore on the O-Line. Only a few have done that before. His junior year he was a first team all-district selection as well as a senior. Gavin started 40 games through his high school career, which puts him 3rd, (for now at least,) in the all time starting list for Longview.
35. Jaylon Allen
Years: 2016-18
Position: DE
Madden Rating: 91
At 5'11 230, Jaylon Allen was an absolute man up front. When he was moved up late his sophomore year he was more of a banshee. Bang whatever was in front of him and find the ball. That mantra lasted throughout his career as Allen gained size and strength. He was a headache for offensive linemen, and played his ass off to being named 1st Team All East Texas after a 54 tackle, 8 sack and one blocked punt performance.
34. Jalen Porter
Years: 2010-12
Position: DL
Madden Rating: 88
JP was a dude. At 6' 230 he was interchangeable at both defensive end and tackle. He started as a sophomore on varsity, a claim most individuals can not claim at Longview. As a senior he racked up 71 tackles, 14 for loss, 5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown. On national TV he forced a fumble that DeSoto recovered in their own endzone to force the game winning safety.
33. Sawyer Goram-Welch
Years: 2018-19
Position: DL
Madden Rating: 88
Sawyer is 6'4 295 lbs. an Oklahoma State commit, and absolutely dominant as a run stopper. He controls opponents and drives them backwards, shedding them and making tackles behind the line. He applies constant pressure to the quarterback, whether he's free, or driving a lineman into a quarterback's lap. As a junior he was first team all-district and I'm sure he'll end the season with another first team selection, and honorable mention all state after a 64 tackle, 17 for loss, and 7 sacks as a senior.
32. Zaycoven Henderson
Years: 2011-13
Position: RT/DT
Madden Rating: 89
Henderson's numbers aren't spectacular, but his play and impact was. As a junior he had 48 tackles and as a senior 36, but with constant double teams this is to be expected. Henderson had the athletic ability to play guard for the basketball team, and that athleticism translated to trouble for opposing o linemen.
31. Cornelious Williams
Years: 2010-12
Position: DT
Madden Rating: 88
The most productive tackler in Lobo History happened to play behind one of the best defensive tackles in Lobo History. Cornelious Williams was an absolute stump in the middle of a defense and could not be moved. He required double teams at all times, and still managed to make close to 80 tackles his senior year. He was the best at holding the point and not allowing offensive lineman to work up to the next level, and is the best defensive tackle Mark Peters said he's ever coached.
30. Deontre Wilson
Years: 2010-11
Position: Fullback
Madden Rating: 92
Deontre started his career off as a quarterback before making the transition to fullback his junior season. Most of the time that year he was a reserve player behind mighty mouse Dakota Anthony, but due to an injury he got his chance in the playoffs. In the State Semifinal in 2010, Wilson ran 12 times for a 100 yards and caught a touchdown pass. This was merely a preview of what he could do his senior season rushing for 9 more touchdowns in 13 games. The most memorable memory of Wilson is him knocking out a defender who decided to challenge the 6'1 230 fullback from getting into the end zone vs Garland Sasche in 2011.
29. Braylynn Anthony
Years: 2015
Position: RB
Madden Rating: 93
Pig was so explosive that he finished second on the team in rushing in 2015, had over 1200 yards, and didn't even start the year off at running back. He was out of position at wide receiver in attempt to get the best athletes on the field. I watched from the sidelines his junior year on JV and the guy literally didn't get tackled. As small as he was you would think he would only be a perimeter runner, but the man could run inside zone and power with the best of them. He was as quick as he was fast and had a knack for popping a long gain, whether after the catch or a big run. What's even more crazy is that the only comparison I have for him is Allen Iverson. He ran for 14 touchdowns in his one year of varsity football. Evidence
28. Spencer Borens
Years: 2010
Position: LT
Madden Rating: 99 Duh. (Nah a 91 tho.)
A 3 Year starter and I hold the school record 47 starts in a row, I was a stronghold on the offensive line in 2010. As a senior I recorded 147 knockdown blocks, 88% blocking grade, one blown assignment and one sack allowed. At 5'8 225 I was often undersized and used a great will of determination and technique to survive and eventually flourish on the field.
Years: 2013-14
Position: LT
Madden Rating: 89
Broderick Washington, a 6'3 280lb tackle, currently a starting defensive tackle at Texas Tech, was a dominant force for Longview his two years as a starter. His junior season started out with a great test in a struggle with Solomon Thomas, the number 2 pick in the NFL Draft last season, but after that he rolled through the district competition. Broderick was big, strong, fast, and was an absolute jerk on the field. He was a baller in every since of the word, and his athleticism shows as he now strives on the other side of the ball in the Big 12. As a junior he was second team all-District and as a senior he was first team all-district.
Years: 2011
Position: LT
Madden Rating: 87
My senior year "Biscuit" became my little brother since he was my brother' "twin." The whole year he proceeded to make me laugh as he filled practice and film sessions with timeless plugs that I still cry laughing at. All that to the side, there was nothing funny about his game. In 2011 he started 13 games at left tackle and left guard and was a 2nd team all stater protecting for Caraway and opening holes for Deontre Wilson. 5'10, all of 300, he was the most dominant lineman on a team with a subpar oline, making his job more difficult because the defense keyed to his side even more.
25. Traveion Webster
Years: 2014-16
Position: RB/Safety
Madden Rating: 88
As a sophomore Webster was a reserve fullback and tailback rushing for 3 touchdowns. That spring he found his self on the other side of the ball playing free safety. He was impact as soon as he arrived. A missile coming downhill ready to decapitate a ball carrier, Webster was first team all-district both his junior and senior seasons.
24. Ameron Dean
Years: 2014-15
Position: Cornerback
Madden Rating: 89
Dean played solid football his junior year picking off 4 passes and returning a punt 55 yards for a touchdown. As a senior he continued that same production making 45 tackles, 3 for loss, 5 interceptions, 8 pass break ups, and 3 blocked punts. An impressive athlete, Dean's vertical leap helped him high point a lot of his pbu's and interceptions.
23. Parker Cox
Years: 2017-19
Position: Center
Madden Rating: 86
A 3 year starter, a state champion who was thrust into action his sophomore year when Kaylon Allen went down with an ankle injury. Cox battled that year helping lead Longview all the way to the 5th round. His junior year he started all 16 games en route to the State Championship, making 3rd team all-district in the process. As a senior, Parker performed brilliantly at times, an effort that led to an incredible honor of first team All-State.
22. Malik Cannon
Years: 2019
Position: LB
Madden Rating: 85
The amount of fire and talent this kid possesses is immense. He had an outstanding season in 2019 and put up first team all-state type numbers. Cannon finished 2019 with a stuffed stat sheet making 99 tackles, 18 for loss, 7 sacks, 6 pass break ups, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery.
21. Tylan Miller
Years: 2013-15
Position: Running Back
Madden Rating: 91
A short, stout, running back, Miller reminds you of a lesser version of Ezekiel Elliott. A reserve running back as a sophomore Miller rushed 23 times for 140 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2013. As the man in 2014, Miller lit up the numbers with 198 carried for a 1,444 yards and 18 touchdowns with 8 catches for a 145 yards. That effort was good enough to be named District MVP. As a senior, with limited playing time due to a torn meniscus, Tylan still was the teams leading rusher, rushing for over 1100 yards and 11 touchdowns. For a career Miller rushed for over 2600 yards 33 touchdowns.
20. Eric Hawkins
Years: 2010-11
Position: Wide Receiver
Madden Rating: 87
Eric Hawkins had one of the best seasons imaginable in 2011. He scored 10 TDS his senior year and caught 41 passes for 994 yards at Longview. His speed was bar none, a state silver medalist in the 200 meters and bronze in the 100 meters. Had Eric produced his junior year, (3 catches, 2 TDs) the same way he did his senior year, we're talking about a GOAT candidate.
Years: 2011-12
Position: Safety
Madden Rating: 92
Corey Bartley is another member of an outstanding 2011 and 2012 defense that most of you snoozed on. He transferred back into Longview after spending time elsewhere and had an explosive junior year. The 5'6 155 pound free safety finished with 110 tackles, five tackles for losses, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, six passes broken up and two blocked punts, on his way to a 3rd team all state honor. He didn't disappoint in his senior year, making 1st team all state with 138 tackles. Bartley led Longview with seven interceptions, 21 pass breakups, and five kick blocks. He also forced one fumble, recovered one fumble, blocked one punt, and scored one defensive touchdown, all at the 5A level in 2012. Those numbers on a 6'1 frame makes for a division one player. His anticipation skills were bar none. In 2012 against Lufkin, he knew exactly what play Lufkin was running, waited on the receiver to catch a slant and snatched it out of his hands for a touchdown. To have success at safety at that size you've got to have a lot of dog in you. His play should be attached to the Mark Twain quote, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog."
18. JaMycal Hasty
Years: 2012-14
Position: Running Back
Madden Rating: 91
JaMycal Hasty spent the majority of his time at running back during his career for the Lobos, but has the best hands I've ever seen with my own two, and made jaw dropping catches at ease. His sophomore year Hasty sparked the end of a blowout loss to Coppell with a 47 yard touchdown catch. For the next few weeks he disappeared as older players got their shots, but the sophomore scored 4 touchdowns rushing in the final 5 games of the season, ending with 5, making way for a breakout junior year. Hasty ran for 1,420 yards and 13 TDs, on his way to being named an honorable mention all stater. The biggest play that year came against Olive Branch Mississippi, a nationally ranked team. Hasty lined up in the slot and ran a simple seam route. Chumley place the ball on him and Hasty looked up last second. He snagged the ball out of the air with one hand. (Skip to 4:05). After a scary injury, in which he broke his back in the offseason, Hasty played in 3 games his senior season. He was used lightly against Hallsville, but against Lufkin Hasty made his mark. In the bi-district playoff game Hasty finished with 121 total yards along with 1 touchdown, a 24 yarder. In the last game of the season, the senior finished with 97 yards of total offense.
17. Dorian Leonard
Years: 2011-13
Position: Wide Receiver
Madden Rating: 89
On first site Dorian Leonard was supposed to be Malcolm Kelly 2.0. At 6'5 180 lbs, Dorian looked like a man child on the high school field. A fiery competitor, Leonard alongside Dez Chumley, caught 11 TDS his senior year after catching 4 his junior year. Had he possessed the speed he gloated at Texas, Leonard would've topped this list.
16. Jakoriyan Walker
Years: 2013-14
Position: Cornerback
Madden Rating: 91
Walker took advantage of a huge senior year in 2014 making 52 tackles, 9 interceptions, 5 pass break ups, 1 forced fumble and scoring 2 defensive touchdowns. That effort was good enough to land him 1st Team All-State as well as 1st Team All-East Texas.
15. Andrew Beltran
Year: 2018-19
Position: DL
Madden Rating: 91
If you've been to a game this year this should be real familiar: DRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. Beltran could possibly enter higher on this list if his season continues like it does. The team leader in sacks and tackles for loss this year is damn near impossible to block one on one. The 320 bench he carries, on top of his excellent ball get off, creates hell on an opponent. Drew Beltran finished 2019 with 64 tackles, 27 for loss, 11 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.
14. Thomas Jones
Years: 2010
Position: DE
Madden Rating: 91
Jones started his varsity career at linebacker where he was a part time starter in both his sophomore and junior years. As a senior Jones was moved to defensive end where he became a bookend for Longview in 2010. Jones had a special season, being named first team all state after a tremendous 16 sack performance.
13. Kaden Meredith
Years: 2018-19
Position: Running Back
Madden Rating: 93
Meredith was an absolute stud during his sophomore and junior years. As a sophomore he could've started for many teams in Texas but had to stay behind Jessie Anderson and Keilyn Williams. Despite the lack of touches, Meredith ran 71 times for 792 yards, and 12 touchdowns, and catching 4 passes for 64 yards, while also returning a kick for a touchdown his sophomore year. His junior year, his first year as the starter, Meredith rushed 183 times for 1,646 yards and 20 touchdowns, while also catching 6 passes for 102 yards. He returned a kick for a touchdown as well. Through his career, Meredith has rushed 254 times for 2,438 yards and 32 touchdowns, caught 10 passes for 166 yards and has 2 career kickoff return touchdowns. All this with a senior year to go.
12. Jessie Anderson
Years: 2016-18
Position: Running Back
Madden Rating: 89
Jessie holds the record for single season touchdown record, with 28. Those stats are impressive, and honestly, really don't even have to be expanded on, but I will. The 2018 offense is one of the most explosive groups in the nation. Haynes through for over 40 touchdowns, Keilyn Williams had over 10 touchdowns, all in the same season when Jessie ran for 28. After making a splash as a sophomore, making big runs during reserve time, Jessie was slotted to be the #1 tailback his junior year. Through 3 games Jessie ran for 259 yards and 3 touchdowns before basically ending his season on a wrist injury. He missed all the way til December, and ran the ball late, but was a shell of his former self. As a senior Jessie started the year off at Fullback, but received the majority of his carries as the tailback. Jessie ran the ball 160 times for 1,243 yards, a longest rush of 95 yards and 26 touchdowns. He caught another 19 passes for 295 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.
11. Joe Brown
Years: 2010Position: SafetyMadden Rating: 93
A 3 year letterman, 3 year starter, First Team All-East Texas, District MVP, Joe Brown was an absolute load at the safety position. Joe played more like a deepened linebacker because there wasn’t much that got by him. After two years of strong safety, in his senior year Brown was named 2nd Team All-State after a 163 tackles, 3 for loss, 5 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 7 pass break ups and 2 interceptions at free safety. When Joe’s Lobo career was over he had the most tackles in program history with 347 tackles.
Years: 2017-18
Position: Running Back
Madden Rating: 93
Personally, I've never seen someone run with as much determination as Keilyn Williams. We all know about the folk lore story of his size. 5 foot 4 inches, 145 pounds and would absolutely try to murder you every single down he was on the field. His run style was sort of untamed which helped him as much as hurt him. For a career, Keilyn ran for 2,675 yards and probably left another 500 on the field dancing in and out of holes. He was impossible to get a clean hit on, and ran with a pace and urgency that I've never seen here at Longview High School. He took over as the starter in game 4 of his junior year when Jessie Anderson went down. He ran the ball 170 times for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns, while catching it 11 times for 151 yards and 1 touchdown. He added a throwing touchdown in the 5th playoff game against Midway and returned the opening kick of the season against Lufkin for 20 total touchdowns his junior year. His senior was just as potent, rushing 206 times for 1,550 yards and 18 touchdowns, while adding 23 receptions for 564 yards and 9 touchdowns. 47 career touchdowns for a back at that size and splitting time with a teammate who's on this list as well.
Years: 2010
Position: Quarterback
Madden Rating: 86
Playing quarterback again for the first time since his freshman year, Robertson amassed over 1500 yards passing and 10 touchdowns and 1100 yards rushing for 17 touchdowns. There was no doubt he was the most dominate player on the team. After making 2 state championship appearance, Robertson catapulted a team that lost many seniors the year before all the way to the state semifinals. Had it not been for a punt that was blocked with 25 seconds remaining, Robertson would've led Longview back to state for a 3rd straight time.
8. Travin Howard
Years: 2012-13
Position: Safety
Madden Rating: 92
A 2 year letterman, Poopy was honestly a larger version of his brother. He was District MVP as a senior, honorable mention all state, after 89 tackles, 10 for loss, 8 interceptions, 4 which were returned for touchdowns, 8 pass break ups and added on 2 punt returns for touchdowns as well. Howard went on to become the greatest tackler in Gary Patterson's era at TCU, amassing over 300 at the linebacker position. He was drafted in the 7th round by the Los Angeles Rams and made their 53 man roster this season.
7. Jaylin Brown
Years: 2015-17
Position: Tight End
Madden Rating: 94
Brown was brought up to varsity at the tale end of his sophomore year, making 3 catches, but exploded on to the scene with an All State performances of 13 catches, 9 going for touchdowns. He was a dominate run blocker as well as pass catcher, and his huge senior year in 2017 pushed him atop of this list. Jaylin was 1st Team All-State after catching 31 passes for 638 yards and 13 touchdowns. For a career he caught 47 passes for over 800 yards and 22 touchdowns.
6. Jalen Carr
Years: 2016-17
Position: Cornerback
Madden Rating: 96
As a free safety Carr pulled down 2 interceptions, but after a rare midseason loss to Mesquite Horn, Carr was moved to cornerback. The next game against Rockwall, Jalen picked off the Yellowjackets 3 times. He finished his senior season with 70 tackles, 3 for loss, 10 interceptions, 5 pass break ups, 1 sack, and 3 blocked kicks. That effort was good enough for him to be named first team All-State as well as East-Texas.
5. Tyshawn Taylor
Years: 2017-19
Position: Linebacker
Madden Rating: 96
An absolute star at the linebacker position, Taylor posses the speed, strength and tenacity to be an All-American. He got the move up late his sophomore year and was absolutely terrific his junior year. He had 121 tackles, 15 for loss, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery. One of those fumbles he forced locked up the win in the 2018 State Championship Game. Tyshawn cemented his legacy as one of the greatest in 2019. He finished the season with 119 tackles, 19 for loss, 7 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 recovery, and 2 pass break ups. In his final 28 games as a Lobo, Taylor had 240 tackles, 34 for loss, 10 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.
4. Kamden Perry
Years: 2016-18
Position: Wide Receiver
Madden Rating: 96
Through the first 17 games of Kamden Perry's career it seemed he would barely make thisf this list. But as the playoffs came approaching, Perry's game was starting to rise. As a sophomore, Perry caught 8 passes for 118 yards and 1 touchdown. Those numbers/fame/clout rose his junior year. He caught 42 passes for 600 yards and 4 touchdowns, including the best catch in program history in the 4th round versus rival Lufkin. His senior season is as good as they come on this list. Perry caught 87 passes for 1,896 yards, 18 touchdowns as well as becoming Texas All time leader in receiving yards in the state game with 218. For a career he caught 137 passes for 2,614 yards and 23 touchdowns, all school records.
3. Haynes King
Years: 2017-19
Position: Quarterback
Madden Rating: 94
Haynes sophomore season record was 10-1, leading his team to the 5th round throwing 2,107 yards for 25 touchdowns to 10 interceptions and rushing for 238 yards and 2 touchdowns. His junior season led Longview to their first State Championship in 81 years, throwing for 3,877 yards for 41 touchdowns to 4 interceptions while rushing for 664 yards and 8 touchdowns. After that remarkable season, Haynes was named Texas Player of the Year, 6A Player of the Year, Ford Player of the Year, East Texas MVP, and District MVP. By those standards what happened Haynes' senior year was a let down. King was 123/213 throwing for 1,926 yards for 20 touchdowns to 8 interceptions. On the ground he ran 55 times for 506 yards and 10 touchdowns. Through his 39 career games, King threw for a school record 7,910 yards and 86 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,408 yards and 20 touchdowns. Those numbers scream the best ever, but the disappointing performance with expectations his senior year drops him to 3.
2. Jephaniah Lister
Years: 2016-18
Position: Safety
Madden Rating: 94
At 5'8 170 lbs. Lister was an absolute machine for Longview. He was an honorable mention All-State after 91 tackles, 7 for loss, 2 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 pass break ups and an interception. As a junior, he was named 2nd Team All-State after a 144 tackles, 89 solo, 4 for loss, 2 sacks 6 pass break ups, 4 interceptions, 1 forced fumble, and 2 blocked kicks. As a Senior he was named All-East Texas Defensive MVP after 135 tackles, 6 for loss, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery. For a career Lister finished with 370 tackles, 17 for loss, 6 sacks, 7 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries and 5 interceptions.
1. DeMarkus Lathan
Years: 2010-12
Position: Linebacker
Madden Rating: 95
The GOAT in my opinion. A former teammate of mine, Demarkus Lathan had a knack for getting off blocks and making plays. At 5'7 175 pounds, Lathan was a 3 year starter at Longview and set the school record for tackles during that span. He was East Texas Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore after a 101 tackles and an interception. As a junior Lathan really made his mark recording, 188 tackles, 9 for loss, 3 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 2 pbus, 1 interception and 2 blocked kicks. That effort was good enough to be named 5A Defensive Player of the Year, as well as 1st Team All-American by Max Preps. His senior wasn't shabby either. Lathan finished with 138 tackles, 11 for loss, 1 fumble recovery, 8 pass break ups, 1 blocked kick, landing him another all-state bid. He finished his high school career with 416 tackles, 10 sacks, 33 tackles for loss, 14 pass break ups, 3 interceptions and 3 blocked kicks for Longview; all playing at the highest classification of football.
