Top 10 Kilgore Bulldogs Since 2000

In preparation for the Top 100 Lobos since 2000, I want to look at some of the best from some of our rivals and neighbors. This week let's take a look at the best 10 Kilgore Bulldogs over the past 20 years. 
10. Kevrin Justice


Years: 2013-14
College: Houston

Led the Kilgore Bulldogs to state in 2013 as a junior when he was District MVP after rushing for 1,966 yards and 36 touchdowns. Those 36 touchdowns are a school record for rushing touchdowns in a season. Justice finished his career at Kilgore with 51 career touchdowns and finished with the 3rd most yards in school history with 3,410.
9. Britt Mitchell


Years: 2003-05  
College: Texas

Labeled a tight end, but Mitchell was more of a sixth offensive lineman for Kilgore in their hay day. A 4 year letterman who helped his team to a 39-4 record over his final three seasons including a state championship in 2004. For his career, Mitchell had 16 receptions for 181 yards. He went on and started two seasons at Texas at right tackle

8. Lon Roberts

Years: 2003-2005
College: Louisiana Tech

Back in the days of the Bulldogs hollering they could beat Longview, there was a mainstay at center for them. Lon Roberts was a 3 time First Team All-District selection for the Bulldogs. During his 43 game starting career, he went 40-3 also capturing a state title along the way. He was first team All East Texas his senior year. That consistency and play time followed him to college. After redshirting, Roberts started 38 games in a row for La. Tech before graduating and forgoing his senior year to start his coaching career. 

7. LaDarrin Anthony



Years: 2012-13 
College: Kilgore

At 5’11 245 Anthony was a bull in a china shop in 4A. As a junior, Anthony made 114 tackles, 12 for loss, 12 sacks, 1 blocked kick 1 pass break up, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery. As a senior he was just as dominant, racking 94 tackles, 8 for loss, 12.5 sacks, 39 hurries, 4 forced fumbles and 1 kick block. Anthony was a first team All-East Texas selection in both his junior and senior year.


6. Davon Vinson

Years: 1999-2000
College: Baylor/NWST

Davon Vinson is Kilgore High School's All-Time Pass leader in passing touchdowns with 29, yards with 3,378 and career completions with 201. Vinson was named a Top QB Prospect in Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine. He went to Baylor, and finished his career at Northwestern State University, where he was a top passer for them as well. 
5. Michael Huey

Years: 2004-06
College: Texas

Michael Huey was a prep All-American, first Team All-State and first Team All East Texas player as a 2 year starter for the Kilgore Bulldogs. As a senior he was district Lineman of the Year after an 86 knockdown, 0 sacks allowed performance. Huey went on to Texas where he participated in 47 games and started 20. He was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection in 2009.
4.  LaDarius Anthony  
Years: 2009-2011
College: N/A

As a sophomore Anthony exploded on the ETX scene rushing for 1508 yards and 24 touchdowns on 208 carries. His junior and senior stats are hard to find, but as a senior he finished his career as the district MVP, leading Kilgore into the 4th round. Anthony holds the school record for most yards and touchdowns in a career with 3,766 yards and 51 touchdowns.
3. AJ Davis

Years: 2011-12College: Sam Houston State
As a sophomore Wilson stepped on the scene and produced immediately. He had 141 tackles as he was District Newcomer of the Year. As a junior Wilson was All-East Texas First Team after a tremendous year for the Bulldogs. He totaled 162 tackles, 12 for loss, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, 3 pass break ups, 4 blocked kicks and 3 fumble recoveries. As a senior he followed that amazing effort with 154 tackles, 10 for loss, 1 interception, 2 fumbles forced, 2 pass breaks ups. That effort was good enough to land him All-East Texas First Team. 
2. Keith Gilliam
Years: 2003-2005
College: Utah State

Keith Gilliam was the 4A Player of the Year when he rushed for 2,775 yards for 28 touchdowns to lead Kilgore to a State Chmapionship. In the playoffs alone, Gilliam rushed for 1,151 yards and 11 touchdowns. For a career, Gilliam rushed for 3,686 yards and his 28 touchdowns are a record for most in a season.

1. Eddie Jones


Years: 2003-05
College: Texas 

Nobody made more of an impact in their varsity career as Eddie Jones. Jones is a 3-Time All-East Texas selection, a 2-Time First Team All-State selection, 1-Time Honorable Mention All-State a 5 Star recruit, A First-Team high school All-American, District Newcomer of the Year, and a 2-Time District Defensive MVP.  Through his career Jones had 310 tackles, 27 tfls, 28 sacks, 25 pass breakups, 8 forced fumbles, 8 fumble recoveries, 30 pressures and blocked a punt that he scooped and scored. Jones' 28 sacks are incredible especially for an era that was dedicated to the I-Formation and running the ball.
