Top 10 Marshall Mavericks Since 2000

10. Rashad Turner
Years: 2000-02
School: N/A

The original of the burners Marshall has put out over the past 20 seasons. Rashad Turner was a main recipient of the passes sent from Austin Christmas, the school's all time leading passer. Turner graded out as a 3 star, and had the attention of all the major big schools in Texas.

9. Aaron Franklin

Years: 2007-09
School: Oklahoma

4 Star linebacker from the 2010 class, Franklin was a man child. At 6'2 220, Franklin roamed in the middle of the field, racking up 103 tackles, 23 for loss, 8 sacks, 3 FF and 3 FR in 2009, his senior year. Franklin went on to OU and was a backup linebacker during his time.

8. CJ Byrd

Years: 2003-04
School: Southern

CJ Byrd is a key piece in a very successful 2004 team, leading the Mavs to an 11-4 season, falling just short of a state championship. Byrd currently ranks 3rd in most throwing yards in a season. That 2,010 yard marker provided great balance to running back Jackie Robinson, and the throwing weapon of Junior Osborne. Byrd went on to play and start at Southern University where he graduated. He is now the Head Coach of Woodlawn High School in LA.

7. Darius Jones

Years: 2006-08
College: Baylor

Darius Jones lined up all over the place for the Mavericks during his career, starting his career as an All-District receiver his sophomore year after running for 452 yards and 2 touchdowns on 37 carries and catching 19 passes for 437 yards and 3 touchdowns. His junior season, Jones began to dwell at the QB spot often for Marshall. He threw for 633 yards and 6 touchdowns while also rushing for 632 yards on 100 carries. Jones also played defensive back for the Mavericks while splitting time at QB his senior year. He ran 88 times for 784 yards, threw 27-58 passes for 354 yards and two touchdowns and also caught 11 passes for 100 yards.

6. Antonio Washington

Years: 2014-15
School: N/A

In 2015, Marshall won 11 games, the most they've won since 2005. One of the biggest (literally and figuratively) reasons for that success was the 2015 ETSN Defensive MVP that season Antonio Washington. Washington racked up 99 tackles, 38 for loss and 6 sacks in 2015. That's the most dominant season from a defensive tackle at Marshall, well ever. You're talking about a guy teams had to prepare for, or he would single handily ruin your day.

5. Chasen Hines

Years: 2015-17
School: Marshall
College: LSU

At 6'3 335, Hines was a monster on the high school level. He started his career off making the All-District team as a sophomore, before becoming a 2 time All-East Texas guard his junior and senior seasons. Hines was ranked the #1 guard in the country before deciding to play defense on the next level. That was short lived, because after an injury riddled season for the Tigers, Hines played in 8 games this past season at guard. It'll be interesting watching Hines over the next 3 years in Baton Rouge.

4. Mario Walker

Years: 2002-04
School: SMU

Mario Walker finished 2004 as the best tight-end in the state. Walker was named first team All-State, East-Texas and All-District when he produced 28 catches for 528 yards and 8 touchdowns as a senior. Also playing defensive end, Walker saw both time at both positions while at SMU.

3. Justin Smart

Years: 2003-05
School: SMU

A first team All-State linebacker in 2005, Justin Smart was the best defensive player on two teams that went on to play 15 games in both 2004 and 2005. Smart was selected to play in the THSCA All-Star game as well as being named first team All-District and Region.

2. Cam Haller

Years: 2015-17
College: Texas A&M (Baseball)

An absolute stud for the Mavericks during his career, Cam Haller was the best player on Marshall's third best team of this century. Haller's main position was running back, but when starter Justin Hartt went down his junior season, he finished the season as the quarterback, leading the Mavs to the State Quarterfinals. Haller's numbers are ridiculous finishing with 4,548 yards and 68 touchdowns. His passing stats are pretty cool too. For his career he completed 64 of 114 passes for 983 yards and 12 touchdowns.

1. Jackie Robinson

Years: 2003-2005
College: N/A

Google Jackie Robinson and you'll find number 42, but for Marshall's best football teams of this century, Jackie Robinson was the man. During his career at  Marshall, Robinson ran for 5,208 yards while leading the Mavericks to state two years in a row, losing to Ennis in 2004 and Highland Park in 2005.
