Top 10 The Weeknd Songs

The Weeknd jumped on the scene on Take Care telling us how much shorty was loving the crew. From there on XO has taken off, and The Weeknd has become one of the best Pop stars in the world, despite what the Grammy's think. Here's my 10 favorite joints.

10. Call Out My Name

Year: 2018

Album: My Dear Melancholy,

A different type of project for The Weeknd in 2018. True R&B/Soul vibes came from this EP, and "Call Out My Name" was the lead dog. The Weeknd has a peculiar sound and he sounds like no one else from his time. Most times he can be pretty straight forward leaving nothing to imagination. This time he wasn't as vulgar, the message was simple, call out his name when you're in need.

9. The Birds Part 2

Year: 2011
Album: Thursday

Following his debut act from Take Care, House of Balloons and Thursday crossed my years. The Birds Part 2 is the song that stuck with me the most out of these 2 mixtapes. The chorus is familiar, even if you're unfamiliar with this song. This style, the stretching of the notes, the warnings not to "fall in love with a nigga like me," all very much true to the style of The Weeknd.

8. Heartless

Year: 2020
Album: After Hours

"Never need a bitch, I'm what a bitch need." This line may have done me more harm than good, but it is what it is. The Weeknd got in his Hip-Hop bag on this one delivering bars.

"Call me up, turn that p---y to a faucet
Duffel bags full of drugs and a rocket
Stix drunk but he never miss a target
Photoshoots, I'm a star now
I'm talkin' Time, Rolling Stone and Bazaar now
Selling dreams to these girls with they guard down
Seven years I been swimming with the sharks now"

7. Acquainted

Year: 2015
Album: Beauty Behind The Madness

The Weeknd has some of the best first liners in the business. He understands that people want to be hooked from the first words of a song, and Acquainted is sung in such a way that he gets that response. There's so many ways to say that me and you mess around, this is the first time I've heard the word acquainted has been used.

6. Party Monster

Year: 2016
Album: Starboy

The Weeknd is fully in his party bag when he dropped this one. It ain't a Weeknd song without a drug or sex reference and Party Monster is full of em. He meshes Hip-Hop, R&B, and Pop like no one else before him, and Party Monster is just another example of Abel deep in his bag.

5. Starboy
Year: 2016
Album: Starboy

An artists second album is super crucial to their career trajectory. The first album puts you on, the second one establishes you. The Weeknd wasted no time showing people who he was going to be. Starboy, the Title track, gives us the Hip-Hop, R&B, and Pop, combo

4. Blinding Lights

Year: 2020
Album: After Hours

This mega smash pop hit is as every bit as successful as "Can't Feel My Face," and gives us that same 80's Scarface poppish sound. I got to it courtesy of 2K, and am I ever grateful. "I said OOOOOOoooooooooo......"

3. SNOWCHILD

Year: 2020
Album: After Hours

Bars. The Weeknd wastes no time giving us this emo flow. His crew isn't very deep, but they are efficient. The Hollywood lifestyle is wearing on him, and he's ready to run his feet through the snow. The Canada born rapper let's everyone know he's a Snowchild.

"Cover girls jumping out the page like they pop ups
Spending all my money on these niggas that I brought up
Taking care of families for my brothers when they locked up
And I had nothing to believe in
Double cup leaning
Couldn't even breathe, and
For that money, I was fiending
Cali was the mission, but now a nigga leaving…"

2. Reminder

Year: 2016
Album: Starboy

The Weeknd's first verse might be the hardest verse he has put out. Let's break it down. He lets everybody know the white boys can't do soul like him so play he record. He kinda tells everyone why he's not the most liked of the mainstream in the industry, he cusses too much and smells like weed. The XO crew is the hardest in the game. He won a Kid's Choice Award about not being able to feel his face from Cocaine. Got damn, he's not a teen choice, he's not NSYNC, his Lamborghini should be evidence. When he hits the gas his tires spin, all his partners are big time just like him, you RnB niggas are lame, and the word play at the end is astounding, lo Mein.

"Record man play my song on the radio
You too busy tryna find that blue-eyed soul
I let my black hair grow and my weed smoke
And I swear too much on the regular
We gone let them hits fly, we gone let it go
If it ain't XO then it gotta go
I just won a new award for a kids show
Talking 'bout a face numbing off a bag a blow
I'm like goddamn bitch, I am not a Teen Choice
Goddamn bitch, I am not a bleach boy
Whip game, make a nigga understand though
Got that Hannibal, Silence of the Lambo
Hit the gas so hard make it rotate
All my niggas blew up like a propane
All these R&B niggas be so lame
Got a sweet Asian chick, she go low mane (lo Mein)"

1. Escape From LA

Year: 2020
Album: After Hours

"The boy who sound like thrilla, you know that's been my nigga," Drake says. Honestly, this is the closest thing vocally to Michael Jackson I've heard. When he sings notes going into the bridge and transition of the song, I thought he might've been the King of Pop himself. The Weeknd keeps the theme of getting out of LA, CA this time dedicating his whole song to it. All of you girls faces are looking the same he can recognize, same work done on their face, he don't criticize. It's a 2 part wonder, and it might not be his best song, but it's damn sure my favorite.
