Top 5 (John) Tyler High Wide Receivers since 2000

The Lions of Tyler have had incredible athletes come through. Here's a look at the best 5 Receivers since 2000.

5. Montrell Wade
Years: 2009
College: Boston College
Talent wise, Montrell Wade could place himself in the top 25 Lions ever. A starter at safety and receiver during his career, Montrell wowed the crowd with incredible moments. As a sophomore, he had a 26 catch 500 yard 4 touchdown performance. As a junior that production went through the roof with Eli Holt. He caught 39 passes for 838 yards and 13 touchdowns. As a senior, the Lions like Wade disappointed. His production dropped back to just 27 catches for 411 yards and 3 touchdowns. When Wade had a QB, he was a stellar receiver, but unlike the other players on this list, he only had a QB for 8 games of his career.

4. Ricky Collins

Years: 2009
College: Kilgore/Midwestern St./Texas A&M Commerce
Highlights: (Canadian League) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ggorFRljSQ

This Canadian League receiver would be way higher on the list with another year of production. With his one season, Collins caught 44 passes for 1,053 yards and 13 touchdowns. With as many transfers and bumps in the road Collins has endured, his tenure in the Canadian League should show you his true talent.

3. Ke'Aundre Street

Years: 2016-18
College: Houston

Street was productive all of his year on varsity for the Lions. As a sophomore he came in producing 31 catches for 555 yards and 6 touchdowns. That number saw a major increase his junior year going for 41 catches for 1,022 and 11 touchdowns. As a senior, Street went to work catching 37 passes for 921 yards and 10 touchdowns. For a career: 109 catches for 2,498 yards and 27 touchdowns.

2. Damion Miller

Years: 2014-16
College: TJC

Not too many times do you see athletes excel in 5A/6A football on both sides of the ball. Miller was a standout safety for the Lions as well as a dominant receiver during his varsity stint. As a sophomore Miller totaled 26 catches for 614 yards and 8 touchdowns. His junior and senior seasons were almost identical as he went for 41 catches both years, and 912 his junior and 922 yards his senior year. He had 9 touchdowns his junior season, while 8 his senior. For a career, the CUJO star caught 108 passes for 2,448 yards and 25 touchdowns.

1. Fred Ross

Years: 2010-2012
College: Mississippi State

John Tyler's best teams of this century were led by 3 rockstar players from the same class: Greg Ward Jr. Tyus Bowser, and Fred Ross. All 3 had stints in the NFL, and Ross is the first member of the Top5 for great reason. As a sophomore Ross caught 23 passes for 313 yards and 5 touchdowns. Those modest numbers catapulted him to a huge junior year, catching 99 passes for 1,335 yards and 15 touchdowns. His senior year, the catches went down, but the yards went up. Ross caught the ball 86 times for 1,594 yards and 21 touchdowns. For a career, Ross caught 208 passes for 3,242 yards and 39 touchdowns.
