2022 Preseason East Texas Top 10 Quarterbacks

Preseason East Texas Top 10 Quarterbacks

Names to Watch:

So. Chase Johnson - Daingerfield

SR. Jax Stovall - Spring Hill

JR. Akhari Johnson - Pleasant Grove

Size: 6’1 205

Stats: 64/97 1,158 Yards 11 TDS to 6 INT

Allen brings 18 games of starting experience into his senior year, as he looks to QB Longview who has an impressive number of lettermen and starters returning from a 9-4 team in 2021. Allen’s experience should bring a sense of calm to the offense, and he brings consistent play to the position. Allen has heard the noise and is out to prove he can be the leader to get Longview over the hump. Will it be enough for Longview to get over the 3rd round, as they’ve been stopped there two years in a row?

Size: 6’1 175

Stats: 141/259 for 2,036 Yards 17 TDs to 7 Int  - 120 Carries for 574 yards 9 TDS

An accurate QB with great mobility, Moseley can be the key catalyst to turn the Bobcats around from a 3-7 season the year before. Moseley is a smooth operator with the ability to extend plays and make big gains using his legs.

Size: 6’3 185

Stats: 145/245 2,599 yards, 35 tds to 5 int - 40 carries 420 yards 7 tDs.

Mata threw for prolific numbers throughout the year for West Rusk as they steamrolled opponents all the way til they met their match against Daingerfield. Mata is big and has the arm and accuracy to match. He has weapons coming back, and it will be really interesting to see the strides the SR will make and take West Rusk in 2022.

Size: 5'11 180

Stats: 44/85 904 yards 12 tds; 153 carries 1,279 yards and 27 tds

COLE WATSON is the master of Keeling's triple option and is taking his talents over to Tatum for the 2022 season. He's not the most explosive athlete in the area, but he's one of the best decision makers. He routinely makes the correct read, and Tatum's going need to all of it to compete in 2022.

Size: 6'1 175

Stats: 69/129 1001 Yards 11 TDs to 5 INT - 121 Carries for 1,357 yards 16 TD

Brisbon is a true dual threat as he went over 1,300 rushing yards in an incredible FR campaign in 2021. Helping guide the Bulldogs to the 5th round, Brisbon protected the football to the tune of just 5 interceptions, while also providing 11 touchdowns. Brisbon has one of the best receiving corps in ETX with McGregor and Berry returning for their senior years. Brisbon will have to step his passing game up in 2022 to counter off the amazing senior class that helped take the team to the 5th round.

Size: 6’4 195

Stats: 161/281 2,211 28 TDs to 6 Int

Cuff is a tall QB with a big arm to go along with it. He has moderate athleticism, nothing to write home about, and in Surratt’s offense he’s not asked to run the ball. Cuff delivers the ball high and accurately. He sort of reminds me of Kai Horton. Carthage’s offense was hymned up in the third round last year, but with the starting QB, RB and top WR all coming back, I expect Carthage to be there at the end like always in 2022.

Size: 6’1 185

Stats: 37/76 535 Yards 7 TDs to 5 Int - 89 carries 389 yards 6 tds

This is a ballsy move to place Green so high off as little of production as he had in 2021, but this kid is special. Green started the year off as a linebacker where he was productive: 79 tackles, 5 for loss, 1 sack. But it was his quarterback play that sparked the most intrigue. Green has one of the best arms of ETX and found a go to target later in the year in Jermod McCoy. These two made incredible highlights on the tail end of a losing season for Whitehouse, and they can be the reason why Whitehouse returns to the playoffs in 2022.

Size: 5’10 180

Stats: 212/333 3,798 41 TDs to 9 INT 15 carries 107 yards 5 TDs

Bennett is statistically the best QB returning for the 22’ season, but losing Caydon Coffman is going to hurt just a tad. Coffman had 37% of the catches in 2021 and produced 43% of the receiving yards last year for Bennett. Bennett does have Jaden Horton returning from a 944 yard season, so I do not expect Bennett to fall too far off from last year, but with SR RB Makenzie McGill still in the backfield, I expect MV to be a little more run heavy this fall.

Size: 6’1 215

Stats: 129/219 2,146 Yards 22 TDS to 6 INT

I’ve gone back and forth on it for about 3 months, and 1 week before release I made up my mind. Van Zandt comes at number 2 after an impressive year of dimes. He delivered some of the best throws in East Texas last year. He's a big QB who drives his throws. He's fearless, and will allow his receivers to make plays for him. But he's losing a lot. He had very talented receivers last year. This year he's throwing to a new bunch and sometimes it takes a minute for rhythms to be established. With Isaiah Ross running there will still be big play opportunities in the play action game, and I still expect Van Zandt to be HIM for Kilgore.

Size: 6’4 220

Stats: 126/204 2,124 Yards 22 to 2 INT

A true pocket passer with some mobility, Robinson is the most physically impressive guy on this list. He essentially has a rocket launcher attached to his shoulder, and with his swag and Moxy he makes the game fun to watch. I'm predicting Henderson makes a huge leap in 2022. Henderson struggled to finish in 2021, losing 5 of their 6 district games, 4 of them by 10 points or less. With the staff being a year deep along with Jacobe, I expect the Lions to compete and finish ball games in 2022. Robinson can make every throw on the football field, and with 3 returning receivers they'll be cooking early. I expect Robinson to be a potential #1 player contender.
