Spence and Co. Presents The Top 10 2025 East Texas Preseason Quarterbacks

The most important position in sports, the QB has always been the initiator to wins. These 10 signal callers had big moments in 2024, were all First Team All-District, and are my Top 10 signal callers coming back for the 2025 football season.

Granberry is starting his 3rd season as the Quarterback of the Tyler High Lions, and fortunately has one of the best receivers in East Texas to throw it to. Caden is about 5'6 and isn't very big in stature, but has incredible throw power for his size. He's very elusive, keeps himself alive, and throws a pass that gives his dude a chance. The game's going to be slow for him, and he's bound to add his name amongst the likes of some of the best Tyler QBs.

Last season, Ludlow was an honorable mention All-State selection and a 2nd team All-State punter after throwing for 2,103 yards for 23 tds to just 7 interceptions. A dual threat, Ludlow rushed for 875 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. A do it all effort, for a 5-5 team, if Ludlow can get some help White Oak can have a promising season on his shoulders.

Marshall went 4 rounds deep last year before losing to SOC. Their physical running game was the root of the reason, as Marshall pounded teams into submission all last season. Henderson, while not having or playing in an offense that spreads it out, threw for 1,385 yards and 13 tds to 7 ints. On the ground he made a living, rushing for 692 yards and 10 touchdowns on 128 carries. Marshall was senior heavy last season, but Henderson is a dynamic playmaker that will again lead the Mavericks.

It's never easy replacing the school's best QB in history, but that just what Nolee Carroll was tasked with at the beginning of 2024. Carroll did as a great of a job throwing it as Kyler Finney. In 2024, Carroll threw for 2,771 yards and 38 touchdowns. Of course, Carroll has one of the best receivers in Texas in Senior, Camden Capehart, and their connection will be the reason why Winnsboro has success in 2025.

Jett Taylor starred at both QB and Safety for Grand Saline in 2024, and his game was reminiscent of his first name. Taylor ran for 1,909 yards and 28 touchdowns and threw for 1,593 yards for 15 tds and 4 ints. Taylor's home run speed is what makes him dangerous, and his ability to control the flow of the game by using his legs makes him a favorite to again make the Top 100.

Kam Wrightner started his high school career as a quarterback and is going to get an opportunity to finish his career as one as well. Wrightner was an electeriyfing slasher as a freshman, and in his sophomore and junior seasons he was as dynamic as they come on the outside as a receiver. Wrightner's YAC ability proves he'll be able to tote it around, and he's proven this spring he can throw it around the yard.

The most entertaining passer returning for the 2025 season is rising Junior Trevor Golightly. Golightly has impressive touch on the ball, and plays with a swagger that reminds you on Manziel. He's mobile, but he is a passer. His accuracy is impressive. In 2024, Golightly threw for 3,470 yards on 62% passing for 40 TDs to 12 interceptions. He's already thrown for 5200 yards and 57 touchdowns going into his junior year, and I'm expecting him to throw for 4,000 and another 40 this year.

Surratt is the only defending state champion on this list, and is bringing in 2 years of experience going in to his senior year. Seems like yesterday watching him in 2023 in his first varsity season, and I'm expecting full out coach on the field energy from Surratt this year. Last season, Surratt played the majority of the season with an injured shoulder, yet still threw for 3,380 yards and 53 touchdowns. He returns his thunder and lightning duo at RB, so I'm expecting Surratt to thrive in the play action game in 2025.

The Top Dual Threat target in TX pops up here at 2. Bryant's been nothing short but amazing since starting his career at Westwood. Last season, Bryant threw for 2,442 yards and 34 TDS to just 3 interceptions. He also ran for 709 yards and 11 touchdowns. Bryant is losing the best offensive weapon in Jon Denman, but the Junior is bringing in 67 touchdowns worth of experience in to this junior season.

No quarterback carried their team the way Kayson Brooks carried his team in 2024. Brooks stepped right into his new role as the starting QB, throwing for 3,673 yards and 43 Touchdowns leading the Bulldogs to the state title game. Kilgore finally got over the Chapel Hill hump in the 4th round after losing to them 3 years in a row at the same juncture. Brooks is a mobile QB, but he is a passer. He can and will run, but his best skill set his ability to throw the ball. Kayson is an early contender for the number 1 spot in 2025.
